“I started acupuncture treatment with Gavin Kervill in August 2023. I had been referred to a therapeutic facility for acupuncture treatment following back surgery. Over the course of one year, I was attended by the first acupuncturist that I had ever been to. This person’s treatment became an important point of comparison.

When I started treatment with Gavin I was immediately impressed by his professionalism, knowledge and capability. He gave careful and thorough explanations for all his treatment methods and monitored the effects thereof very closely. My first few treatment sessions with him accomplished more improvement than the acupuncture treatments that I had received for several months before. Pains in my back, legs and other limbs decreased significantly.

Gavin took a comprehensive approach to my treatment. He used several methods apart from dry needles and treated me for inflammation nerve pain and blood flow. My back and leg pains continued to reduce tremendously and he also successfully treated me for knee pain, vertigo, congestion, weight loss and depression.

Using a holistic approach, Gavin monitored my various medical complaints and the medications that I was prescribed. I also, on Gavin’s advice, abandoned several self-prescribed over the counter medications and substituted herbal supplements. The effect of this change in my medication was phenomenal and I especially became less dependent on pain medications.

It is with gratitude for your professional Acupuncture Therapy that I am impelled to Voluntarily write this thank you note.

Two years ago in 2020, if someone had mentioned Acupuncture as a treatment, I would have laughed and ignored the very thought. However, I came to you at that time, you looked at my condition with a pinched nerve in the neck and confidently assured me that you could help. The prognosis was not good as the orthopaedic surgeon had said that three vertebrae needed to be fused because of the pain.

The weekend after the first treatment, I began to sense a reduction in my pain. It was truly amazing! Eight treatments later and I was pain free for the exception of some minor intermittent tingling down my arm. All symptoms eventually went away, and I did not have any further discomfort for two years.

After the summer of 2022 l was exerting myself physically and mentally and having a stressful time. I suspect this combination resulted in a relapse of my condition. I took the time to enquire for you and initially learnt that you were not at your previous employment. However, upon further online research I discovered to my delight that you were on Island at a new location. I made the choice to endure my pain for several additional days to secure your service.

Today, October 31, 2022, after eight treatments, I am pain-free and almost all the tingling on my arm is gone.

“For over a decade, our mother’s physical health and cognition steadily declined due to dementia. She was still walking and interacting with others but with increasing difficulty. One day in late November 2023, signs of a stroke became evident. Based on her cognitive condition, attempts at in-depth imaging scans were rule impractical and there seemed little else that could be done to improve her condition. Eerily, we had been through a comparable situation with our dad in 2021; we braced ourselves as we faced the dreaded thought of losing our mum too.

After the stroke, our mother was unable to communicate, suffered complete loss of movement in her right leg and, though she could lift her right arm, could no longer control the movements of the arm or her hand. Her right eye was bloodshot and the hearing in her right ear was diminished as well. In the years leading up to the stroke, Mama had experienced circulation issues in her legs and regularly sought specialists’ care. After the stroke, her entire body began retaining fluid which concerned us deeply as it reminded us of our dad’s renal failure. Dad had often shared how acupuncture under the skilful care of Gavin Kervill had brought him pain relief.

Shortly after the stroke, a family member was receiving acupuncture and on mentioning our mother’s condition, was informed that acupuncture has been proven to help stroke victims; in fact, the sooner a stroke victim begins treatment, the better the chances of obtaining favourable results. The acupuncturist also reminded that strokes often reoccur despite rigorous efforts to prevent them. Open to the hope of relief from pain and discomfort for our mother, the family agreed to try acupuncture. With weeks already lost, our expectations for any significant changes were low; but we were in for the surprise of our lives..

Astonished to be witnessing such remarkable outcomes so soon, we witnessed every major effect of Mama’s stroke dissipate and for the first time in weeks, she became responsive! Regular acupuncture over the next two months brought consistent gradual improvements. Our mother’s unique personality began to shine through and her ability to communicate returned. Our expectations now exceeded, we were overwhelmed with joy to have her back and feeling better. Soon regaining the control of her limbs’ movements, she was able to sit up, eat and enjoy her family’s company again. For over two months we cherished our time together with her. Sadly, Mama suffered a final attack that took her physically from us.

We are so thankful for those two precious months and for the improved quality of her life. Acupuncture was the key that unlocked the door to this priceless experience for our family. We wish healing and recovery for other stroke victims and their families. At the end of one of Mama’s first acupuncture sessions, as Gavin was leaving, he held her hand and told her he wanted her to start moving both her legs again. The evening after, we sat talking to her and watched in amazement as she slowly began making circles with first the left and then the right foot - as if sitting at the edge of a boat intently stirring the water below with her feet.
